UFC 284: Makhachev Without Nurmagomedov
UFC 284: MAKHACHEV WIHOUT NURMAGOMEDOV- At UFC 284 on February 11th, lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, will defend his title against featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski.
The main event on the UFC 284 fight card is a highly anticipated fight between the two top pound-for-pound fighters in MMA.
FOX Sports Australia reported over the weekend that Makhachev will be without longtime friend and coach, Khabib Nurmagomedov, who has recently announced his decision to step away from MMA for person reasons.
This is a huge development for Makhachev, as Nurmagomedov is considered to be an essential part of the lightweight champion’s success.
“When the cage door close, no one is there for you,” Makhachev said.
“Of course, it’s going to be different but I’ve already fought without him a couple of times. And he cannot always be with me. Of course, it’s very good when he is here. I always like when he is with me because he knows all the games being played. He knows what you need for the fight, for the weight cut, you don’t have to worry about any of this. It’s always good when you have someone as experienced as him. You don’t have to spend your energy thinking about other things. But I understand that he has to spend more time with his family. Because with all the fighting, the training, his family miss him too. Even though he is retired he’s still traveling a lot. That’s why I understand.”
Even though Nurmagomedov has already said he will be taking some time away from the MMA world, many believed he would be in Makhachev’s corner for this fight. The fight was, in fact, Nurmagomedov’s idea.
After Makhachev defeated Charles Oliveira at UFC 280, it was Nurmagomedov who insisted that Makhachev defend his lightweight belt against Volkanovski in Australia.
UFC 284 will be held at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia on February 11th, 2023. Continue to read Godzilla Wins for more MMA news, analysis, and predictions.
