Rangers Fans Crap Their Pants As Astros Sign Verlander
Mets owner Steve Cohen needs to lower his income, pays Verlander to play for Houston.
Cohen, a former Wall Street hedge fund titan, decided to pay his star pitchers to pitch for other teams—both in the A.L. West. This lowers his federal tax bite for the next two years.
The Astros re-acquisition of Justin Verlander, uniting the Hall of Famer with his World Series winning teammates for five and a half of the six last years, is a coup for Houston. He loved playing for the Astros and he has great relationships with owner Jim Crane, manager Dusty Baker and catcher Martin Maldonado.
The Rangers, who made early trade deadline moves to try and finally break the Astros hammer-hold on the A.L. West, gasped for air at the signing. Verlander has a 1.67 ERA over his last six starts.
Coupled with Houston’s recoupling with former reliever Kendall Graveman, the Astros astutely added the two pieces they needed to have a legitimate shot for a World Series repeat: a back end reliever and a quality starting pitcher. It’s like a family reunion.
Houston goes into tonight trailing the reeling Rangers by one-half game. Fasten your seatbelts.

August 1 2023
We went 1-3 Saturday, losing -$ and shrinking our annual take on MLB to minus -$265 for the season. I’m moving on to today!
Cleveland at Houston (-178)
Minute Maid will be rocking tonight with the Verlander trade. They are facing a team that’s dumping players while only 1.0 game back in the A.L. Central. Ownership does not believe in this Guardians roster. Nice message to your team.
Framber Valdez has looked horrible in his last three starts. He’s allowed 15 earned runs over 15.0 innings. He was pulled early against the Rangers in his last start where he gave up eight hits and two homers and couldn’t get his curve over.
Will he rebound tonight? At minus 178, I’ll take that opportunity.
Pick: Astros (-178)
