Shaking Things Up, Yankees Move Water Cooler at Trade Deadline

Shaking Things Up, Yankees Move Water Cooler at Trade Deadline

Under Fan Pressure, Yankees Trade Yogi Berra Signed Baseball To Royals For New Bat Rack

Mired in last place and fading from the last wild card slot, Yankee fans are beside themselves at management’s inertia at the trade deadline. Their cross-town rival Mets at least decided to gut their over-paid and under-achieving corps and buy a future. The Yankees look flat and they just aren’t hitting. This coming series in the Bronx with Houston is key for them, and unfortunately they have hit a very hot club. They face Justin Verlander Sunday night in his Houston debut.

August 3 2023

We went 1-0 Tuesday, winning $100 and shrinking our season loss to minus -$165 for the season.

Houston (+105) At Yankees

The Astros are on a roll. Winners of three straight, Houston is back at full strength and their bats have come alive.

Houston averaged 5.6 runs per game over their last seven games hitting .274 as a team with an on-base percentage of .353. On the flip, the Yanks averaged just 3.4 runs per game over their last seven, hitting .239.

Key stat: opponents have hit just .145 against  Astros starter Christian Javier over his last three starts.

For New York, opponents have hit .261 against Clarke Schmidt at home this season and he has an ERA of 5.06 overs last two starts.

Pick: Houston (+105)

Reds at Cubs (-160)

We have to go with the red hot Cubs. We have said for a month the Reds abysmal pitching metrics would eventually catch up with them. That time has arrived. Doing nothing meaningful at the trade deadline, the Reds have coughed up 41 runs to the Cubs in three days. Cincinnati is just not that good, and the Cubs are closing in on them. Another win tonight puts the Cubs in great position in the N.L. Central.

Pick: Cubs (-160)
