Thoughts

1 Kansas City Chiefs

(previously: 1)

7-0 Josh Uche only has two sacks in New England this season, but the Chiefs went out and got the talented pass rusher for a sixth-round pick. He should have more opportunities to rush the passer in Kansas City than New England, where the Patriots are always playing from behind.
2 Detroit Lions

(previously: 3)

6-1 The Chiefs are barely hanging onto the number-one spot. They lead the NFL with 33.4 points per game and have scored 43.3 points per game in their last three games. They have an important game in Green Bay this week.
3 Buffalo Bills

(previously: 5)

6-2 Amari Cooper only caught one of his two targets for three yards. He and Josh Allen are not on the same page yet, but Cooper is making life easier for Keon Coleman. Coleman has nine receptions for 195 yards and a TD in his last two games.
4 Green Bay Packers

(previously: 6)

6-2 Jordan Love strained his groin against the Jaguars and only played 63% of snaps. He is day-to-day, and Malik Willis would likely start again if he were to miss. The Packers would love to have Love against the Lions this week.
5 Houston Texans

(previously: 7)

6-2 Joe Mixon has transformed this team and helped them win games while the offense deals with some injuries. Stefon Diggs hurt his knee on Sunday, and it could be an ACL injury. That would be devastating to this offense, which is missing Nico Collins with a hamstring injury.
6 Washington Commanders

(previously: 9)

6-2 Jayden Daniels played through a rib injury and delivered 52 yards on the ground with 326 through the air with a TD. The touchdown was a hail mary to win the game on the final play. It was a classic game between the first two picks in the draft.
7 Baltimore Ravens

(previously: 2)

5-3 Jameis Winston and the Browns upset the Ravens 29-24. The offense is playing efficiently, but the defense is not doing its part. The Ravens were a dropped interception away from winning this game, but Kyle Hamilton bobbled it, and the next play was the go-ahead score for the Browns.
8 Pittsburgh Steelers

(previously: 8)

6-2 Russell Wilson may not be as great as he used to be, but the deep ball is still there. The Steelers offense is designed for the deep ball with George Pickens and Van Jefferson, two of the best down the field.
9 Minnesota Vikings

(previously: 24)

5-2 The Vikings have dropped two in a row after starting 5-0. The Rams torched their secondary and lost their tackle, Christian Darrisaw, for the season. Things have gone downhill quickly in Minnesota.
10 Philadelphia Eagles

(previously: 10)

5-2 The Eagles are getting better every week. Injuries plagued them early in the season are playing at full strength now. I do not think they can compete with the Lions now, but they are trending up.
11 Atlanta Falcons

(previously: 14)

5-3 Kirk Cousins has transformed this team into a contender in the NFC. He is getting all his weapons involved, and Bijan Robinson averages 4.7 yards per carry. They play the Cowboys this week.
12 San Francisco 49ers

(previously: 15)

4-4 The 49ers dominated the Cowboys for three quarters on Sunday night but nearly lost the game in the fourth quarter. Christian McCaffrey could return to practice in week 10, so this offense is close to getting a lot better.
13 Denver Broncos

(previously: 16)

5-3 The Broncos are the most surprising 5-3 team. Bo Nix has been improving every step of the way. They play the Ravens this week and will need Nix to air it against the league’s best-run defense.
14 Chicago Bears

(previously: 11)

4-3 Caleb Williams was one play away from leading his team to a tough victory against the Commanders. Williams did not play great, but he put his team in a position to win the game.
15 Seattle Seahawks

(previously: 12)

4-4 The Seahawks are trending in the wrong direction. They have lost four of five games and were decimated by the Bills. They should lean on their running backs more, especially when DK Metcalf is not playing.
16 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

(previously: 13)

4-4 Baker Mayfield scored 26 points without Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, but the defense let them down. If you told me the Bucs scored 26 points without those two, I would have guaranteed they won.
17 Los Angeles Chargers

(previously: 17)

4-3 The Chargers are still the best defense in the league in points allowed, with 13 per game. They control the ball well on offense and limit possessions. They play the Browns this week, who average 17.3 points per game.
18 Arizona Cardinals

(previously: 21)

4-4 Kyler Murray won a game the same week Call of Duty was released, and he beat the allegations. He topped 300 yards and had two TDs. They will play the Bears at home this week.
19 Los Angeles Rams

(previously: 23)

3-4 Matthew Stafford was happy to have Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua back. He threw four TDs and beat the Vikings. They are on the road to Seattle this week.
20 Dallas Cowboys

(previously: 19)

3-4 This team is in a bad state. They cannot run the ball, and receivers are dropping passes. Dak Prescott should not take all the blame, but eight interceptions is not great.
21 Indianapolis Colts

(previously: 18)

4-4 Anthony Richardson has awful accuracy. He has completed 44.4% of passes this season and is not picking up the slack with his legs. They should consider turning to Joe Flacco if they want to contend.
22 Cincinnati Bengals

(previously: 20)

3-5 The offense did not look the same without Tee Higgins. He averages nine targets per game, which were missed against the Eagles. The ground game was also nonexistent, with 58 rushing yards.
23 Miami Dolphins

(previously: 24)

2-5 Tua Tagovailoa returned to the lineup but it did not matter much. They managed 27 points, a step in the right direction, but they lost the game. They are staring down 2-6 with a game against the Bills this week.
24 New Orleans Saints

(previously: 25)

2-6 The Saints looked like a real contender to start the season, but injuries have plagued the offense, and the defense cannot stop the run.
25 New York Jets

(previously: 22)

2-6 Aaron Rodgers is as immobile as ever, and Davante Adams joining the team is not helping. The Jets lost to the Patriots and now have the same record as them. The Jets are the most disappointing team thus far.
26 Cleveland Browns

(previously: 30)

2-6 Jameis Winston should have been starting for this team all season. He scored 29 points in his first game, the first time this season the Browns have scored 20 or more. They could be in contention if they opted for Winston instead of Waston in game one.
27 Jacksonville Jaguars

(previously: 27)

2-6 The Jaguars’ offense looked solid against Green Bay, but they could not get the victory. Changes could be coming in Jacksonville.
28 Las Vegas Raiders

(previously: 28)

2-6 Maxx Crosby may be on the trade block, and it would not be the worst move. The season is over, so it may be time to accumulate future picks and assets.
29 New York Giants

(previously: 26)

2-6 Daniel Jones is not the answer and never was. The quarterback position is the biggest question for this team, which has playmakers and a solid defense.
30 New England Patriots

(previously: 31)

2-6 Drake Maye suffered a concussion and could not finish the game. They beat the Jets, but they should take caution with Maye’s health.
31 Tennessee Titans

(previously: 29)

1-6 The Titans got obliterated by the Lions. Mason Rudolph is starting games, and they are trading players for picks. This team needs a quarterback.
32 Carolina Panthers

(previously: 32)

1-7 Bryce Young drew the start with Andy Dalton out with a thumb injury. The defense allowed 28 points to the Broncos and is still dead last with 33.9 points allowed per game.
