Thoughts

1 Kansas City Chiefs

(previously: 2)

4-0 The Chiefs did not roll over the Chargers, but they got the job done. Rashee Rice hurt his knee after stripping the Chargers player who made the interception. Patrick Mahomes dove into his knee, and they have not confirmed an injury yet.
2 Minnesota Vikings

(previously: 3)

4-0 Two undefeated teams remain, and the Sam Darnold-led Vikings are the lone NFC team. They took care of business at Green Bay, 31-29. Darnold has 11 TDs and three interceptions this season and looks much improved.
3 Detroit Lions

(previously: 4)

3-1 The defense did not look amazing on Monday night, but the offense was clicking on all cylinders. They beat the Seahawks 42-29, and Jared Goff went 18-18 with 292 yards and two TDs and also caught a TD pass from Amon-Ra St. Brown.
4 Baltimore Ravens

(previously: 10)

2-2 Baltimore rolled over the Bills 35-10. They showed how good they are, with Derrick Henry running for 199 yards and two TDs. They had 271 rushing yards as a team on eight yards per rush.
5 Buffalo Bills

(previously: 1)

3-1 The Ravens stifled the Bills’ offense and held them to 10 points. No one played exceptionally well, and they were dominated in every category. Both sides of the ball have to play better than that.
6 Houston Texans

(previously: 8)

3-1 Dare Ogunbowale scored on a one-yard TD pass from C.J. Stroud with 18 seconds left to take the lead over the Jaguars. It should not have been that close, but they got the victory. They should play better when Joe Mixon returns from injury.
7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

(previously: 14)

3-1 The Buccaneers have beaten some good football teams already, and Baker Mayfield is taking care of the ball. They play on the road in Atlanta and New Orleans for the next two weeks. Those will be important games for the division.
8 Washington Commanders

(previously: 17)

3-1 Jayden Daniels continues to impress. He has run for 218 yards and four TDs this season and only has one interception. He runs the offense efficiently, second in the league in first downs (23.8) per game.
9 Pittsburgh Steelers

(previously: 7)

3-1 The Steelers came up short against the Colts on Sunday. Justin Fields played pretty well, with two TDs on the ground and one through the air. They did not have a ground game outside Fields, and the defense gave up 27 points.
10 San Francisco 49ers

(previously: 9)

2-2 The Patriots did not put up much of a fight against the 49ers. They need to get Brandon Aiyuk involved more while they battle through injuries.
11 Seattle Seahawks

(previously: 6)

3-1 Geno Smith and the offense played well against the Lions, but the defense could not stop a thing. They have a lot of injuries on defense and will get better when healthy. Kenneth Walker scored three times on 12 carries, which is a great sign after returning from an oblique injury.
12 Green Bay Packers

(previously: 13)

2-2 Jordan Love returned, but the Packers came up two points short of the Vikings. Love threw three interceptions but had four TDs. They play the Rams on the road this week.
13 Dallas Cowboys

(previously: 15)

2-2 Micah Parsons sprained his ankle in the fourth quarter and was seen in a boot on Monday. DeMarcus Lawrence has a foot injury and will likely miss at least four weeks. Injuries are starting to mount up before a tough run in their schedule.
14 Philadelphia Eagles

(previously: 5)

2-2 The Eagles do not look great right now. The defense cannot generate any pressure, and the offense looked bad without A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
15 New Orleans Saints

(previously: 12)

2-2 Injuries are plaguing this team, and they have not won a close game down the stretch. They have another tough game at Kansas City on Monday night.
16 New York Jets

(previously: 11)

2-2 Aaron Rodgers and company could not pull out the victory at home against the Broncos. The offense did not score a TD in a rainy game, and penalties were an issue. They had 13 penalties for 90 yards. They play the undefeated Vikings at home this week.
17 Atlanta Falcons

(previously: 16)

2-2 It took a special teams TD and pick-six to beat the Saints on Sunday, but they got the job done thanks to Younghoe Koo’s leg. They play the Buccaneers at home on Thursday night.
18 Los Angeles Chargers

(previously: 20)

2-2 The Chargers are playing Jim Harbaugh football. They allow the fewest points (12.5) per game on defense, even without Joey Bosa and Derwin James Jr. The passing game does not look great, but their young wideouts are improving.
19 Chicago Bears

(previously: 24)

2-2 A decent ground attack would help Caleb Williams immensely. They only averaged 87.3 rushing yards per game but had 131 against the Rams. More of the same will relieve the pressure from Williams.
20 Denver Broncos

(previously: 28)

2-2 Patrick Surtain II is a lockdown corner, and the defense carries this team. Sean Payton gives Bo Nix the best chances to make plays and limit mistakes. 2-2 is a great start for this team.
21 Arizona Cardinals

(previously: 18)

1-3 The secondary for the Cardinals is not great, and the offense cannot score enough points, especially with injuries to Trey McBride. They have two tough road games against the 49ers and Packers due up.
22 Indianapolis Colts

(previously: 21)

2-2 Anthony Richardson left the game with a hip pointer, and Joe Flacco led them to victory. It was a great win heading into a road stretch against the Jaguars and Titans.
23 Cincinnati Bengals

(previously: 22)

1-3 The Bengals got their first victory at Carolina. They are in a tough spot now but could gain momentum with a win against the Ravens this week.
24 Las Vegas Raiders

(previously: 25)

2-2 The Raiders got a big win against the Browns and now go on the road to Denver. Maxx Crosby and Davante Adams did not play but still won with the defense leading.
25 Los Angeles Rams

(previously: 19)

1-3 Injuries have crushed this team, and they cannot find a way to win games. They cannot stop the run on defense, and the offense cannot produce enough points.
26 Cleveland Browns

(previously: 23)

1-3 The Browns’ defense is not playing well right now, and the offense is not explosive enough. Jameis Winston may get his shot soon enough, but it likely will not matter if they cannot stop the run.
27 New York Giants

(previously: 29)

1-3 Malik Nabers suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter on Thursday night but caught a break because he will have extra days to recover.
28 Tennessee Titans

(previously: 32)

1-3 The Titans may have some quarterback controversy, but not the kind you want. Mason Rudolph replaced the injured Will Levis, and the Titans won the game.
29 Miami Dolphins

(previously: 26)

1-3 This offense is not turning any heads right now. They look lost and are not getting enough touches from Tyreek Hill.
30 New England Patriots

(previously: 31)

1-3 The offensive line woes for the Patriots continue, as they were sacked six times by the 49ers. They will not win many games if they cannot protect the quarterback.
31 Carolina Panthers

(previously: 30)

1-3 The Panthers’ defense is not good, and they looked terrible against the Bengals. The offense is better with Dalton at the helm, but he has to score many points to compete with good offenses.
32 Jacksonville Jaguars

(previously: 27)

0-4 The only winless team left is the Jaguars. They nearly left Houston with a victory, but C.J. Stroud led a touchdown drive that ended with a TD with only 18 seconds left.
