Thoughts

1 Buffalo Bills

(previously: 2)

3-0 The Bills looked dominant in their Monday night win over the Jaguars. Josh Allen is spreading the ball to his young receivers and has yet to throw an interception. They look like the most complete football team right now.
2 Kansas City Chiefs

(previously: 1)

3-0 There have been two pass interference calls at the end of the Chiefs’ last two games, both of which have gone their way. Rashee Rice is second in the league with 288 receiving yards to go along with his two TDs. They have a road matchup this week against the banged-up Chargers.
3 Minnesota Vikings

(previously: 15)

3-0 The Vikings are the most surprising undefeated team in the league, and they earned some respect after beating the Texans 34-7. T.J. Hockenson and Jordan Addison are both going to return to give Sam Darnold even more weapons alongside Justin Jefferson.
4 Detroit Lions

(previously: 5)

2-1 The Lions suffered some big losses in their win against the Cardinals. Defensive end Marcus Davenport is out for the year with a tricep injury, and center Frank Ragnow will miss some time with a pectoral injury. They will try to replace them Monday night against the Seahawks.
5 Philadelphia Eagles

(previously: 7)

2-1 Saquon Barkley may have been what this team needed to put them over the hump. He is leading the league in rushing (351 yards) and is tied for the lead in rushing TDs (4). Hurts must limit turnovers with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith dealing with injuries.
6 Seattle Seahawks

(previously: 18)

3-0 The Seahawks are undefeated but have beat the Broncos, Patriots, and Dolphins. They play the Lions this week, which will be a great test to see how good they are. Geno Smith has thrown three interceptions so far, but it has not cost his team yet.
7 Pittsburgh Steelers

(previously: 12)

3-0 The Steelers’ defense looks incredible, only allowing 26 points through three games. They are stacking wins right now because they may be hard to find down the stretch against a tough schedule.
8 Houston Texans

(previously: 3)

2-1 The offensive line must play better if the Texans want to keep winning. C.J. Stroud has been sacked 11 times already, and running lanes are not there. Joe Mixon returning would be a good sign as he deals with an ankle injury.
9 San Francisco 49ers

(previously: 4)

1-2 The 49ers nearly stole a win against the Rams with most of their offensive weapons sidelined. Brock Purdy played a good game, but the Rams won with a field goal. They will be fine once they get healthy.
10 Baltimore Ravens

(previously: 9)

1-2 The Ravens got a much-needed win at Dallas to not start 0-3 before playing the Bills and Bengals. Mark Andrews has been nonexistent through three games, but Derrick Henry has been great. They will need both to play well if they want to beat the Bills this week.
11 New York Jets

(previously: 14)

2-1 The Patriots did not put up much of a fight on Thursday, but the Jets did what they needed to do. They play the Broncos at home this week and will need someone to step up if Pat Surtain II shadows Garrett Wilson.
12 New Orleans Saints

(previously: 8)

2-1 The Saints’ offense did not play lights out on Sunday and lost to the Eagles. Center Erik McCoy left the game with a groin injury and is expected to miss at least six weeks. That could be an issue moving forward.
13 Green Bay Packers

(previously: 13)

2-1 Jordan Love could return this week, which is great news as the Packers went 2-0 without him. They have a tough test at home against the Vikings and Matt LaFleur will have to scheme up a great gameplan.
14 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

(previously: 11)

2-1 Bucky Irving may be the answer the Buccaneers need at running back. He had nine carries for 70 yards on Sunday and is playing better than Rachaad White. They have a tough matchup against the Eagles this week.
15 Dallas Cowboys

(previously: 10)

1-2 The Cowboys have not looked great this season. The defense cannot stop the run, and the offense is struggling to run the ball. They need to figure those two issues out before they move back up in the rankings.
16 Atlanta Falcons

(previously: 20)

1-2 Tackle Kaleb McGary and center Drew Dalman were injured Sunday night, which could cause problems for Kirk Cousins. He needs a strong offensive line, or this team will be in trouble.
17 Washington Commanders

(previously: 28)

2-1 Jayden Daniels looked outstanding on Monday night. He threw two TDs on 21 of 23 passes for 254 yards. He added a rushing TD in their win over the Bengals. The Commanders could have found their future quarterback in the reigning Heisman winner.
18 Arizona Cardinals

(previously: 21)

1-2 James Conner was held in check on Sunday. He only ran for 17 yards on nine carries and the offense only scored 13 points. They need to run the ball better to stay in games.
19 Los Angeles Rams

(previously: 22)

1-2 Kyren Williams put the offense on his back on Sunday. He ran for 89 yards and two TDs, with two catches for 27 yards and a TD. They will need more from him for as long as Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua are sidelined.
20 Los Angeles Chargers

(previously: 6)

2-1 The Chargers were decimated with injuries in Sunday’s loss to the Steelers. Joey Bosa, Rashawn Slater, and Justin Herbert left the game with injuries. Safety Derwin James also got suspended for one game. It could be trouble in LA for the next few weeks.
21 Indianapolis Colts

(previously: 25)

1-2 Anthony Richardson has looked terrible the past two weeks. He has not been above 50% completion percentage this season and is not making an impact with his legs. They still managed to beat the Bears, which is a positive.
22 Cincinnati Bengals

(previously: 16)

0-3 Joe Burrow needs some help from his defense if the Bengals want to compete. They allowed 38 points to the Commanders, which is not a recipe for success. They also lost tackle Trent Brown for the season, which does not bode well for them.
23 Cleveland Browns

(previously: 19)

1-2 The Browns lost to the Giants on Sunday and got exposed. The defense is struggling and the offense is not scoring points. It could be a long season for Browns’ fans.
24 Chicago Bears

(previously: 23)

1-2 Caleb Williams did not look terrible on Sunday, but he threw the ball 52 times. The backfield is offering nothing to help him, and they need some production to help Williams.
25 Las Vegas Raiders

(previously: 26)

1-2 The Raiders need to run the ball with Gardner Minshew behind center. They are averaging 2.8 yards per carry as a team, which is not acceptable. Minshew will not succeed with that production.
26 Miami Dolphins

(previously: 17)

1-2 The Dolphins will miss Tua Tagovailoa as long as he is out. They will not compete without a competent quarterback.
27 Jacksonville Jaguars

(previously: 24)

0-3 Trevor Lawrence is not playing well, and Doug Pederson’s job may be on the chopping block. He cannot feel too comfortable after starting 0-3.
28 Denver Broncos

(previously: 30)

1-2 Bo Nix looked more comfortable on Sunday. He got into the game early with his legs, and may have helped his passing. He did not turn the ball over and ran for a TD in their win against the Buccaneers.
29 New York Giants

(previously: 31)

1-2 Malik Nabers is the real deal. He is the first player to have 20 receptions and 250 yards through his first three games. The Giants should start building their offense around him moving forward.
30 Carolina Panthers

(previously: 32)

1-2 Andy Dalton led the Panthers to victory after Bryce Young was benched. It is not that surprising, considering Dalton’s up-and-down career. Dalton is a great backup quarterback behind a struggling quarterback trying to gain confidence.
31 New England Patriots

(previously: 27)

1-2 The Patriots’ offensive line looked terrible against the Jets. Jacoby Brissett was constantly under pressure, and Rhamondre Stevenson could not find any room on the ground. Drake Maye needs to stay on the bench if this is the protection he will receive.
32 Tennessee Titans

(previously: 29)

0-3 Will Levis is constantly hurting his team, and the pick-six to Jhaire Alexander made it worse. I wonder how long it is before we see Mason Rudolph?
