Thoughts

1 Kansas City Chiefs

(previously: 1)

8-0 Six of the eight games have been decided by seven or fewer points, and the Chiefs remain undefeated. Kareem Hunt came in as a free agent and leads the team in rushing, while Travis Kelce quietly leads the team in receiving.
2 Detroit Lions

(previously: 2)

7-1 The Lions are on a ridiculous run, and Jared Goff is leading it. He has an 82.8% completion percentage in his last six games and has not thrown an interception in five games. The Chiefs and Lions are the clear leaders of their conferences.
3 Buffalo Bills

(previously: 3)

7-2 The Dolphins were desperate for a win, but the Bills held them off and moved to 4-0 at home. The Bills have a demanding lead in the division but have games against the Chiefs, 49ers, and Lions remaining.
4 Baltimore Ravens

(previously: 7)

6-3 Lamar Jackson is having an incredible season. He leads the league with a 120.7 passer rating with 20 TDs and two interceptions, adding 505 rushing yards and two scores. He is third in yards and seconds in yards per completion. The defense needs work, but Jackson can carry them.
5 Washington Commanders

(previously: 6)

7-2 The Commanders play the Steelers, Eagles, and Cowboys over the next three weeks. The next few weeks are important for this young team, but they have been finding ways to win games.
6 Green Bay Packers

(previously: 4)

6-3 Jordan Love’s only interception went the other way for six, and the team had 10 penalties. It is impossible to beat the Lions when you are hurting yourself. They go to Chicago next Sunday.
7 Philadelphia Eagles

(previously: 10)

6-2 Saquon Barkley stole the spotlight with his backward hurdle, but the team is starting to play well. They had one costly turnover in the second half, but the offense has been otherwise efficient. They go on the road to Dallas this week.
8 Minnesota Vikings

(previously: 9)

6-2 The Vikings got a victory on Sunday night, and their defense led the way. Sam Darnold had two interceptions and lost a fumble, which was returned for a touchdown. They play the Jaguars and Titans next.
9 Pittsburgh Steelers

(previously: 8)

6-2 T.J. Watt is a playmaker and makes this team great. Russell Wilson is the right quarterback for this team moving forward. He does not need to be perfect when he has Watt making plays on the other side of the ball.
10 Houston Texans

(previously: 5)

6-3 The Texans did not show up on Thursday against the Jets. C.J. Stroud only completed 36.7% of passes and struggled without Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs. Collins can return for their Sunday Night tilt with the Lions.
11 Atlanta Falcons

(previously: 11)

6-3 The Falcons are rolling with Kirk Cousins at the helm. Drake London is day-to-day with a hip pointer, but it should affect the season much. Darnell Mooney quietly leads this team in receiving yards over London and Kyle Pitts.
12 San Francisco 49ers

(previously: 12)

4-4 The 49ers were on a bye this week, so it is almost time for Christian McCaffrey to return. Their season will hinge on his health and production in a wide-open division.
13 Los Angeles Chargers

(previously: 17)

5-3 Jim Harbaugh has this team playing hard-nosed football. The defense is now allowing 12.6 points per game, and the offense is taking care of the ball. They are a contender in the AFC with this defense and Herbert.
14 Arizona Cardinals

(previously: 18)

5-4 The Cardinals are hot and have taken a lead in the NFC West. They control their fate with the Patriots and Panthers remaining on their schedule.
15 Denver Broncos

(previously: 13)

5-4 Bo Nix only managed 10 points against the Ravens, but that game was a difficult one to win. They have a chance to make the playoffs, but they must beat lesser teams with two games against the Chiefs remaining.
16 Los Angeles Rams

(previously: 19)

4-4 Cooper Kupp returned, and the Rams are now in the playoff hunt. Tutu Atwell and Demarcus Robinson (5 TDs) have stepped up, but Kupp takes this team to another level. They play the Dolphins on Monday.
17 Cincinnati Bengals

(previously: 22)

4-5 The Bengals may have figured out how to play without Tee Higgins. Mike Gesicki has played Higgins’ role well in the last two games, and Chase Brown dominated as a workhorse. This team is trending in the right direction.
18 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

(previously: 16)

4-5 The Buccaneers played well against the Chiefs on Monday night, but they lost in overtime. They probably should have gone for two when they scored the final TD because the Chiefs always seem to get the ball in overtime.
19 Seattle Seahawks

(previously: 15)

4-5 Seattle still has a chance in the division, but a close loss to the Rams is awful for their chances. They have a bye this week and will prepare for a huge matchup against the 49ers in week 11.
20 Chicago Bears

(previously: 14)

4-4 Caleb Williams hurt his ankle in the loss to the Cardinals and was hobbling around on the field. He probably should have been rested in the blowout loss, but he was not. They have a must-win game against the Patriots next.
21 New York Jets

(previously: 25)

3-6 The Jets remaining schedule is pretty easy, and they must make a run now. It starts with the Cardinals, Colts, and Seahawks over the next three weeks. They have a slim chance of making a run.
22 Indianapolis Colts

(previously: 21)

4-5 Joe Flacco did not play well, and the Colts’ decision to bench Anthony Richardson remains controversial. They play the Bills this week and need to start winning games to take advantage of the Texans’ injuries and gain ground in the division.
23 Miami Dolphins

(previously: 23)

2-6 The Dolphins are not bad with Tua Tagovailoa but have lost two close games with him. They scored 27 in each, but it was not enough. The playoffs are out of reach for a team that had high expectations.
24 Dallas Cowboys

(previously: 20)

3-5 Dak Prescott will miss multiple weeks with a hamstring injury, which likely ends their season. Washington and Philadelphia command the division, so I doubt they rush Prescott’s return.
25 Cleveland Browns

(previously: 26)

2-7 Jameis Winston did not have the magic against the Chargers, but few teams have scored on them. The Browns are on bye this week and play the Saints after. They are firmly in contention for the first overall pick.
26 Jacksonville Jaguars

(previously: 27)

2-7 The Jaguars are in the toughest part of their schedule. They have lost back-to-back games against the Packers and Eagles and play the Vikings, Lions, and Texans next. This whole team is a mess, but they have scored 20+ in their last two games.
27 New York Giants

(previously: 29)

2-7 Daniel Jones continues to show that he is not the answer at quarterback, and the Giants keep losing games. It will be interesting to see if they make any changes moving forward.
28 Tennessee Titans

(previously: 31)

2-6 The Titans’ overtime victory over the Patriots may be an important one to determine draft order. There are now seven teams at 2-7, so it could get chaotic down the stretch. The Titans play the Chargers this week.
29 Las Vegas Raiders

(previously: 28)

2-7 The Raiders have a bye this week, which is great because they cannot lose again. They have lost five in a row, but Brock Bowers looks amazing.
30 New Orleans Saints

(previously: 24)

2-7 The Saints fired Dennis Allen after losing to the Panthers, which was his seventh consecutive loss. There is a lot of change coming to this organization.
31 New England Patriots

(previously: 30)

2-7 Drake Maye is making plays, but the rest of the team is not very good. The front seven cannot stop the run, and the offensive line cannot get any leverage upfront. They need Maye to continue to learn and improve.
32 Carolina Panthers

(previously: 32)

2-7 The Panthers somehow beat the Saints and likely got Dennis Allen fired. Xavier Legette caught a TD and a big pass on the drive to take the lead. The Panthers need to develop their rookies for next season.
