Newcastle vs. Arsenal Expert Pick – May 7th, 2023
NEWCASTLE VS. ARSENAL EXPERT PICK – MAY 7th, 2023 – This Sunday we will be blessed with some top 4 action when Newcastle United welcome Arsenal to St. James’ Park.
Newcastle United are currently sitting in 3rd place in the Premier League standings and have consistently fought above their weight class all season. They have Manchester United breathing down their neck and will look to win their 4th straight Premier League game, which would make it 9 of their last 10.
Arsenal are currently sitting 2nd in the Premier League and had a bit of a shaky month of April. In the grand scheme of things, they have been excellent and have exceeded expectations for the majority of the season. Arsenal can’t afford to drop any points if they want to remain in the race for the Premier League title, but they face a really tough game away at an in-form Newcastle.
NEWCASTLE UNITED
In their previous fixture, Newcastle United found themselves down 0-1 to last place Southampton but were able to fight back for a 3-1 win thanks to Callum Wilson’s 2 goal performance.
In that game Newcastle had 65% possession and had 22 attempts on goal. They held Southampton to 4 shots on goal but were unable to keep the clean sheet. Newcastle still lead the league with the fewest goals conceded, but clean sheets have been rare recently as they have seen their opponent score in 12 of their previous 13 Premier League matches.
ARSENAL
Arsenal were able to bounce back from their 4 game winless streak by beating Chelsea 3-1. Arsenal completely controlled the game but I suppose it’s not saying much since Chelsea haven’t won a game since March 11th. Nonetheless, Arsenal had 55% possession in that game with 16 shots on target.
Arsenal have scored in 14 straight Premier League games but have also conceded in 7 straight. They have not won an away game since March 12 and things won’t get any easier at St. James’ Park.
Will they be able to turn things around and keep the pressure on Manchester City for the League title.

PROP BETS
| Both Teams to Score & Yes Over 2.5 Goals (-130) |
This fixture typically ends with one team scoring and the other being shut out, but just go back and look at these two teams’ latest results this season and you will see why I’m putting my money on this parlay.
Both squads can SCORE. Newcastle have scored 2+ goals in 8 of their last 9 Premier League games and games have seen both teams score with a total of over 2.5 goals produced in 7 of their previous 9 Premier League games. Arsenal on the other hand have seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals produced in their previous 7 Premier League games. So needless to say I am expecting some goalmouth action in this one.
| Callum Wilson to Score Anytime (-105) |
Callum Wilson is currently Newcastle’s top scorer this season with 15 goals. He is in top form right now, has recorded back to back 2 goal performances, and has 8 goals in his previous 7 appearances.
Arsenal’s defense has been leaky as of late, allowing 11 goals in their previous 5 Premier League matches, so I’m backing the Englishmen to put it into the back of the net…just as he did last time Arsenal came to St. James’ Park.
Last time out against the Gunners at St. James' Park! 😍

THE WORD
Arsenal had a rough month of April, but are still Premier League title contenders IF they continue to win. They ended their 4 game winless run against an out of form Chelsea but this is arguably Arsenal’s hardest remaining fixture of the season and their struggles could return away at St. James’ Park.
Unless they completely implode, Newcastle have surely secured a top 4 spot in the Premier League, something that they haven’t done in over 20 years. They have been a force to be reckoned with at home this season and they will look to prove their worth against an excellent Arsenal team.
My gut feeling is that both Arsenal and Newcastle could both score goals, perhaps more than one and for me it is hard to see a clear cut winner. This fixture ended in a goalless draw earlier this season but both teams have declined defensively since then. I could see this one ending in a draw as well, but this time with a little more excitement.
