Thoughts

1 Los Angeles Dodgers

(previously: 2)

23-13 They just swept the Braves, so I see no reason why they do not deserve the top spot, at least for this week. They have a 3.42 ERA and .275 batting average and are due for another great regular season.
2 Baltimore Orioles

(previously: 4)

23-11 The Orioles took three out of four against the Yankees to start the week and then swept the Reds. This young ball club is the real deal, and their pitching rotation (3.38 ERA) is figuring it out.
3 Philadelphia Phillies

(previously: 7)

24-11 The Phillies hold the best record in the league and are first in the NL East over the Braves. Slow starts are a thing of the past, and Trea Turner (.343 avg., 10 SB) and Alec Bohm (.360 avg.) are the catalysts.
4 Atlanta Braves

(previously: 1)

20-12 They have dropped their last two series to the Mariners and Dodgers, but do not worry too much. Both teams are hot right now, and the Braves continue to hit the ball well.
5 New York Yankees

(previously: 3)

23-13 The Yankees have three games against the Astros this week, so we will see if the four-game sweep to start the season was a fluke. The Astros have been a thorn in their side for years, and this might be the year they get over the hump.
6 Cleveland Guardians

(previously: 5)

22-12 The Guardians have some important divisional series this week: three vs. the Tigers and four vs. the White Sox. They are in a tight division, and these wins would go a long way.
7 Kansas City Royals

(previously: 9)

20-15 One of the teams chasing the Guardians is the pesky Royals. They have a +44 run differential but 15 losses. They have a series with the Brewers and a four-game with the Angels this week.
8 Milwaukee Brewers

(previously: 6)

20-13 The Brewers are third in stolen bases, sixth in batting average, and seventh in home runs. They have speed and power, which is a dangerous combination.
9 Chicago Cubs

(previously: 8)

21-14 They have seven games with the Pirates over the next two weeks, with the Braves sandwiched in between. Shota Imanaga (0.78 ERA) should start against the Braves, which should be a great matchup.
10 Texas Rangers

(previously: 10)

19-16 Nathan Eovaldi joined the long list of injured pitchers on the Rangers with a groin injury. Wyatt Langford also injured his hamstring. Luckily, they have four with the A’s and three with the Rockies this week.
11 Boston Red Sox

(previously: 12)

19-16 The Red Sox have a 2.62 ERA (best in baseball) and a +41 run differential. I have no doubt the wins will come for this team, but maybe not against the Braves this week.
12 Seattle Mariners

(previously: 11)

19-15 The second-best ERA (2.95) is carrying this team. They have a bottom-five batting average (.223), and Julio Rodriguez needs to pick it up. Still, they deserve credit for winning games without hitting well.
13 Minnesota Twins

(previously: 15)

19-14 The Twins had their 12-game winning streak snapped Sunday and are smashing the ball. 10 games against the White Sox and Angels did them good.
14 Detroit Tigers

(previously: 13)

18-16 The Tigers are 25th in batting average (.224) but continue to win games on the strength of their pitching. Spencer Torkelson may be the biggest surprise this season, batting .216 and still has not hit a homer.
15 San Diego Padres

(previously: 19)

18-19 They added Luis Arraez this week to go with their slew of middle infielders. Maybe with him at the top of the order, his contagious hitting can spread to the All-Stars in their lineup.
16 Cincinnati Reds

(previously: 14)

16-18 They have dropped five in a row and are dead last in batting average. They barely snuck into the top-15 pitching staffs in ERA, but they have a west-coast trip this week that could lead to some struggles.
17 New York Mets

(previously: 16)

16-18 They just got swept by the Rays, and Pete Alonso is going through a slump. The big names in this lineup cannot hit >.210 and expect the team to succeed. It all starts with Alonso and Francisco Lindor.
18 Arizona Diamondbacks

(previously: 18)

15-20 A 20-loss team would typically be much lower, but the Diamondbacks somehow have a +7 run differential. They are not as bad as their record indicates, but their pitching must improve (4.43 ERA) if they want to make another postseason appearance.
19 Tampa Bay Rays

(previously: 20)

17-18 The AL East is one of the toughest in the league, and the Rays are treading water. A -38 run differential is concerning, but they are winning games.
20 Toronto Blue Jays

(previously: 17)

16-19 The Blue Jays are in the same boat as the Rays. They have a -37 run differential, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has an eight-game hitting streak.
21 Washington Nationals

(previously: 24)

17-17 The Nationals are playing well above expectations but have a tough stretch this week against the Orioles and Red Sox.
22 Oakland Athletics

(previously: 26)

17-18 The A’s have moved out of the bottom of the barrel! They are one game below .500. The season is still young, though, so they need to prove their worth over the long haul.
23 Pittsburgh Pirates

(previously: 21)

16-19 Jared Jones is a bright spot for the Pirates this season. He has seven games under his belt and has 52 strikeouts, a 2.63 ERA, and flirted with perfection against the Rockies last week. He and Paul Skenes could be the future of this team if they decide not to trade them.
24 San Francisco Giants

(previously: 22)

15-20 Giants fans have not had much to cheer for this season, but at least they are winning at home. They are 6-13 on the road, which is not good.
25 St. Louis Cardinals

(previously: 23)

15-19 The Cardinals dropped a series to the White Sox, which is all you need to know.
26 Houston Astros

(previously: 25)

12-22 It is far too early to count them out, but it is beyond concerning. They have the third-best batting average (.259) but a 4.75 ERA.
27 Los Angeles Angels

(previously: 27)

12-22 Mike Trout hit the IL last week and underwent surgery on his meniscus. They are having trouble scoring runs but are in Pittsburgh to start the week, which could help.
30 Miami Marlins

(previously: 30)

10-26 The Marlins shipped Luis Arraez to San Diego for some prospects. They have thrown in the towel on this season.
28 Colorado Rockies

(previously: 28)

8-26 The Rockies have tied the White Sox for the worst record in the league due to their 3-16 record on the road.
29 Chicago White Sox

(previously: 29)

8-26 The White Sox are trying to compete with the Rockies for the worst road record at 3-14 and still have a -82 run differential.
