1 |
Philadelphia Phillies
(previously: 1) |
65-40 | The Phillies are 3-7 in their last 10 games but still hold the top ranking. None of the other teams have made a significant move to dethrone them, and they still own the best-run differential (+114). |
2 | Los Angeles Dodgers
(previously: 3) |
63-44 | Clayton Kershaw returned last week and threw four innings and allowed two earned runs. The Dodgers are 7-3 in their last 10 games and are cruising. They play the Padres and A’s this week.  |
3 | Baltimore Orioles
(previously: 2) |
62-43 | The Marlins and Padres won series over the Orioles last week, but they are playing well enough to fend off the Yankees. They are up one game in the AL East. |
4 | Cleveland Guardians
(previously: 4) |
63-42 | The Guardians have a four-game series against the Orioles this weekend, which is important for both teams. The Guardians are only up 4.5 games on the Twins in the AL Central. |
5 | New York Yankees
(previously: 5) |
62-45 | Jazz Chisholm Jr. is the newest New York Yankee and is a great addition. He can give Soto and Judge days off in the outfield and fill some holes at third or second base. He may even work his way into the leadoff spot. |
6 | Milwaukee Brewers
(previously: 6) |
60-45 | The Brewers are up six games in the NL Central but suffered a big loss last week. Christian Yelich got placed on the 10-day IL with a back injury, which could linger for the rest of the season. |
7 | Minnesota Twins
(previously: 10) |
58-46 | Carlos Correa is working his way back to running on the field as he deals with a heel injury. Royce Lewis is also back from injury, but we will see if he can stay healthy. |
8 | Houston Astros
(previously: 7) |
55-50 | The AL West is tied at the top, and the Astros only have one more series with the Mariners at the end of the season. The Mariners are 1.5 games back in the wild card, so the Astros better take care of the division. |
9 | Atlanta Braves
(previously: 8) |
56-48 | The injury-riddled Braves are hanging on to the top wild-card spot, but they are only up 1.5 games. Max Fried is throwing the ball, and Michael Harris II said he would return by August 14. |
10 | San Diego Padres
(previously: 15) |
57-51 | The Padres are one of the hottest teams in the league right now, going 7-3 in their last 10 games. Dylan Cease threw a no-hitter against the Nationals on 114 pitches, a flashback to old-school baseball. |
11 | Kansas City Royals
(previously: 9) |
57-49 | Bobby Witt Jr. is mashing the ball in July. He is batting .468 with six home runs, 17 RBIs, and a 1.298 OPS. He is up to a .341 average this season with 18 home runs. |
12 | Boston Red Sox
(previously: 11) |
55-49 | The Red Sox have had a rough start to the second half of the season. They are 3-7 in the last 10 games and have lost three consecutive series to the Dodgers, Rockies and Yankees. |
13 | Arizona Diamondbacks
(previously: 14) |
55-51 | Ketel Marte is quietly having a tremendous season. He is batting .296 with 23 home runs and a 5.3 WAR. The Diamondbacks have clawed back to a half-game out of the last wild card and have a series against the Nationals and Pirates this week. |
14 | Seattle Mariners
(previously: 12) |
56-51 | The Mariners added Randy Arozarena this past week. He has struggled for most of the season, batting .215, but has gotten hot in July. He is batting .286 with four home runs in July. |
15 | New York Mets
(previously: 17) |
55-50 | The Mets have turned their season around and own the last wild card spot in the NL. They traded for Jesse Winker, who will add some depth to the outfield as they deal with injuries to Starling Marte and Harrison Bader. |
16 | Pittsburgh Pirates
(previously: 16) |
53-52 | The schedule for Pittsburgh is brutal for the next few weeks. They play the Astros and Diamondbacks this week and the Padres and Dodgers next week. They need quality starts from everybody, not just Paul Skenes. |
17 | St. Louis Cardinals
(previously: 13) |
54-51 | The Cardinals dropped a series to the Nationals last week, which they cannot do if they want to make the postseason. They are one game back of the wild card with a -48 run differential. |
18 | Tampa Bay Rays
(previously: 18) |
54-52 | Randy Arozarena and Isaac Paredes were moved last week, but they added Christopher Morel. There are rumors that Yandy Diaz could be on the move, but the trade deadline is looming. |
19 | Texas Rangers
(previously: 19) |
51-55 | The Blue Jays swept the Rangers last week, which sums up the season for the Rangers. They cannot quite get over the hump of .500 but are only 4.5 games back of the Astros and Mariners in the AL West. |
20 | San Francisco Giants
(previously: 21) |
53-55 | Blake Snell has been dealing with this month. He owns a 0.75 ERA in July and has 30 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched. The Giants are 3.5 games back of the wild card but must be more consistent. |
21 | Detroit Tigers
(previously: 20) |
52-55 | The Tigers are 5.5 games back of the wild card, but the schedule over the next few weeks is tough. They play the Guardians, Royals, and Mariners next. |
22 | Cincinnati Reds
(previously: 24) |
50-55 | Elly De La Cruz has 55 stolen bases this season and is on pace to surpass 80 steals. The Reds have a +35 run differential but are five games back of the wild card. |
23 | Chicago Cubs
(previously: 22) |
51-56 | The Cubs landed Isaac Paredes last week but gave up Christopher Morel. Paredes was an All-Star this year and should help them for the next few seasons.  |
24 | Toronto Blue Jays
(previously: 25) |
49-56 | The Rays, not the Jays, were sellers this deadline. The Jays dealt a couple of relievers but kept their core intact. |
25 | Washington Nationals
(previously: 23) |
49-57 | The Nationals dealt Jesse Winker to the Mets but still have a lot of good, young players. Juan Yepez has played 19 games and is batting .361. |
26 | Oakland Athletics
(previously: 27) |
44-64 | The Athletics are fourth in the league with 138 home runs. They are playing pretty well, going 7-3 in their last 10 games. |
27 | Los Angeles Angels
(previously: 26) |
46-60 | Mike Trout is expected to start running again soon, which is a step in the right direction. |
28 | Miami Marlins
(previously: 29) |
39-67 | The Marlins are 4-2 in their last six games against the Orioles and Brewers. They lost a fan-favorite in Jazz Chisholm Jr., though. |
29 | Colorado Rockies
(previously: 28) |
38-69 | The Rockies are giving the White Sox a scare for the worst road record. They are 14-40 on the road this season. |
30 | Chicago White Sox
(previously: 30) |
27-81 | The White Sox have lost their last 10 games and are 10-44 on the road this season. |
