Thoughts

1 Atlanta Braves

(previously: 1)

6-2 Atlanta swept the Diamondbacks and still have the best lineup in the league. They will go as far as their pitching takes them.
2 Los Angeles Dodgers

(previously: 2)

8-4 The Dodgers have not played a top-tier team yet, but they have scored the most runs in the league, but have allowed the third-most. We will see how they fare against a solid lineup, but their pitching needs to step it up.
3 New York Yankees

(previously: 11)

8-2 No Gerrit Cole, no problem. They opened the year with a sweep of the Astros, who have been a thorn in their side for several years. Juan Soto is a massive addition and Anthony Volpe seems to have taken a step forward. Cole is also set to start throwing this week, so look out.
4 Texas Rangers

(previously: 8)

6-3 Rangers have started hot as the reigning champs with series wins over the Cubs, Rays, and Astros. Pitching has looked good and are due to get Max Scherzer back.
5 Baltimore Orioles

(previously: 3)

5-4 The Orioles are fresh off a series loss to the Pirates, but I wouldn’t be too worried. The O’s are young and are still working out the kinks and still have a +15 run differential.
6 Chicago Cubs

(previously: 9)

6-3 A 2-1 series with the Dodgers with a 1-2 loss to the Rangers is a good sign for the Cubs. Shota Imanaga has zero earned runs in two starts to go with 12 K’s. They are looking solid to start the season.
7 Houston Astros

(previously: 4)

3-7 Do not let the record fool you, they have played some good baseball against tough teams. Getting swept at home to start the season is not ideal, but they seem to have found a new pitcher in Ronel Blanco.
8 Philadelphia Phillies

(previously: 6)

4-5 Trea Turner has been underwhelming to start the season, and the pitching has not been terrible. Do not worry too much about this squad that seems to always start slow.
9 Boston Red Sox

(previously: 23)

7-3 The Red Sox may be the most surprising team to start the season. They have a +26 run differential with a 1.49 team ERA. Boston did all this on the west coast, as well. They deserve a big bump up the rankings.
10 Tampa Bay Rays

(previously: 5)

5-5 The pitching has been a problem to start the season, but if anyone can fix these problems, it’s the Rays. They have seven games upcoming against the Angels to get right with a three-game series against the Giants wedged in between.
11 Pittsburgh Pirates

(previously: 18)

8-2 This may seem like a big jump for the Pirates, but the record speaks for itself. The bats have been hot and a 2-1 series win over the Orioles is impressive (despite the win via error). We will see if the pitching holds up, but don’t be surprised to see them fighting for a playoff spot.
12 Arizona Diamondbacks

(previously: 12)

4-6 They’ve played six games against the Yankees and Braves, so the record does not tell the tale. They have scored the second-most runs in the league and have an easier schedule this week.
13 Milwaukee Brewers

(previously: 21)

6-2 They are off to a strong start and are killing the ball as an offense. Yelich is batting .308 and Contreras is at .387. The pitching has been slightly above average, so watch out for this team moving forward.
14 Cleveland Guardians

(previously: 22)

7-2 The Shane Bieber injury is a mood killer in Cleveland, but the bats have been hot even with little homers. The second-best team ERA (2.28) is promising.
15 Cincinnati Reds

(previously: 14)

5-4 The series win over the Phillies was a surprise, but they dropped two out of three at home against the Mets. They have been competitive thus far, and we will see how they stack up against the Brewers this week.
16 Kansas City Royals

(previously: 24)

6-4 The Royals swept a four-game series over the White Sox. Bobby Witt Jr. is very good and 14 team home runs helps. They also boast a 2.53 ERA as a team. This three-game series with Houston should be telling.
17 Detroit Tigers

(previously: 19)

6-3 They just lost two out of three to the A’s, which is not a good sign. They are in the bottom-five of runs scored, but a 2.99 team ERA is respectable.
18 Toronto Blue Jays

(previously: 13)

4-6 They play in, possibly, the toughest division in baseball and are not hitting the ball. They are also bottom-five in ERA, which is worrisome.
19 San Diego Padres

(previously: 16)

5-7 They have scored 60 runs this season, which ranks third, but they have also allowed that many. Pitching is definitely a concern, but this lineup is dangerous.
20 San Francisco Giants

(previously: 15)

4-6 A team ERA of 5.19 is concerning, but they have only played the Padres and Dodgers to start the season. We will cut them a break for that, but if they struggle against the Nationals this week, it may be time to worry.
21 St. Louis Cardinals

(previously: 17)

5-5 The Cards have been mediocre to start the season. Now they have back-to-back three-game series against the Phillies and Diamondbacks. We will reevaluate next week.
22 Seattle Mariners

(previously: 7)

4-6 26th in runs and 23rd in ERA is not a good place to be to start the season and they are striking out a ton. Let’s see how they fare against the Cubs and Blue Jays this week.
23 Minnesota Twins

(previously: 10)

3-4 They are only above the White Sox in runs scored (21), but ninth in ERA (3.54). If the pitching holds up against the Dodgers this week, they may get a bump up, but the lack of offense is troubling.
24 New York Mets

(previously: 20)

3-6 The Mets are who we thought they were. They have a four-game series at Atlanta coming up, which could get ugly.
25 Los Angeles Angels

(previously: 27)

5-4 Mike Trout has four home runs and four RBIs. Beating up on the Marlins is also not a reason to celebrate. 29th in team ERA is awful.
26 Colorado Rockies

(previously: 29)

2-8 They’ve allowed 76 runs, which is the most by 11. Coors Field may not be kind to their lackluster pitching staff this season.
27 Washington Nationals

(previously: 26)

3-6 The biggest news for the Nationals this week is Stephen Strasburg retiring. He was once the most sought after prospect in baseball and won World Series MVP, he will be missed.
28 Miami Marlins

(previously: 25)

1-9 The only reason the Marlins are not lower is because of injuries and neglect from ownership. Nothing to be proud about with this team, so far.
29 Oakland Athletics

(previously: 30)

3-7 Fans are questioning the designation of Esteury Ruiz to AAA ball after being a bright spot to start the season. Do not question anything with this ownership, they are a joke.
30 Chicago White Sox

(previously: 28)

1-8 Luis Robert Jr. came up hobbled rounding first last week and will miss at least six to eight weeks with a hip flexor strain. The fans probably feel like the worst team in the league so it’s only right to put them there.
