Thoughts

1 Atlanta Braves

(previously: 1)

19-7 They swept the Marlins and took two out of three against the Guardians. They still own the highest batting average as a team and do not deserve anything less than first.
2 Los Angeles Dodgers

(previously: 4)

18-12 The Dodgers have rattled off five wins in their last six and have significantly improved their record. They are just behind the Braves in batting average, and teams that hit the ball will go far.
3 New York Yankees

(previously: 2)

19-10 Aaron Judge may have broken out of his slump to start the season. He is five for eight in his last two games, with two home runs and five RBIs. The Yankees have also scored 30 runs in two games against the Brewers.
4 Baltimore Orioles

(previously: 6)

14-7 The Orioles are 3-3 in their last six. Those games were against the Angels and the A’s. That is not a good look, but they can turn things around this week against the Yankees in a four-game series.
5 Cleveland Guardians

(previously: 7)

19-9 The Guardians went toe-to-toe with the Braves but only came away with one victory. They lost one game in extras and narrowly won the series. They face the struggling Astros and Angels this week.
6 Milwaukee Brewers

(previously: 3)

17-10 The pitching staff allowed 36 runs over three games to the Yankees, which is concerning. They have a weekend series at Wrigley, which should be entertaining.
7 Philadelphia Phillies

(previously: 6)

19-10 The Phillies could be a top-five team, but their schedule has not been as difficult as most, and it is not getting much harder. They face the Angels and Giants this week, so we may have to wait for them to get tested again.
8 Chicago Cubs

(previously: 9)

17-11 Cody Bellinger and Seiya Suzuki were placed on the IL recently, and Justin Steele is beginning his rehab assignment on Wednesday. They may drop a few games in the coming weeks but deserve to be top-10.
9 Kansas City Royals

(previously: 10)

17-12 The Royals are tied with the Yankees for the third-highest run differential and could be looking to improve their lineup before the deadline.
10 Texas Rangers

(previously: 8)

15-14 The weekend series against the Royals should be a good one this week. The Rangers are afloat in a weak division but could get Max Scherzer back soon.
11 Seattle Mariners

(previously: 21)

15-13 The Mariners are the biggest movers this week. They are first in their division, and their pitching staff is doing the heavy lifting. They own a 3.10-team ERA, and it is only a matter of time before the bats start rolling.
12 Boston Red Sox

(previously: 15)

15-13 The Red Sox have a +33 run differential, but their record does not reflect that. They own the best team ERA (2.68) in the league by a wide margin over the Yankees but play in the toughest division.
13 Detroit Tigers

(previously: 17)

16-12 The Tigers took two out of three at home against the Royals last weekend. They have a weekend series with the Yankees, which will test their excellent pitching staff.
14 Cincinnati Reds

(previously: 14)

15-13 Elly De La Cruz is undoubtedly the most electric player in the game. He has 18 stolen bases, seven home runs, and a 1.8 WAR. I would suggest going to see him play if you can.
15 Minnesota Twins

(previously: 23)

14-13 The Twins are the second-biggest mover this week after winning eight of their last 10, including seven in a row. They were against the White Sox and Angels, so take it with a grain of salt.
16 New York Mets

(previously: 11)

14-13 The Mets have been up-and-down all season, and I expect that trend to continue. They could probably win and lose to any team on this list, which explains why they are at 16.
17 Toronto Blue Jays

(previously: 12)

14-15 The Blue Jays navigated their schedule well over the last week, winning a series over the Yankees and Padres. They have the Royals twice with a three-gamer, with the Dodgers sandwiched between coming up.
18 Arizona Diamondbacks

(previously: 16)

13-16 The Diamondbacks have a +28 run differential but cannot turn that into wins. Their losing record is not indicative of the caliber of baseball, so they get the benefit of the doubt.
19 San Diego Padres

(previously: 18)

14-17 The Padres are trending in the right direction and have a four-game series with the Rockies that should help their record.
20 Tampa Bay Rays

(previously: 13)

13-16 The Blue Jays are plagued by playing in the best division in the league. They lost five in a row to the Royals and Dodgers out west last week and have another three-game series at home against the Royals this week.
21 Pittsburgh Pirates

(previously: 20)

14-15 They are 3-7 in their last 10 games but have nine games against the A’s, Rockies, and Angels coming up, which should help them get back on track.
22 San Francisco Giants

(previously: 24)

14-15 The Giants have played solid ball all season but cannot get a streak going. The most consecutive games they have won is two. It should remain against the Red Sox and Phillies.
23 St. Louis Cardinals

(previously: 22)

13-15 The Cardinals are last in the NL Central but are not playing poorly. The pitching staff is doing its job, but Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Gorman are batting around .200. They need to step it up.
24 Washington Nationals

(previously: 25)

13-14 The schedule is not getting easier in the coming weeks, but the Nationals deserve some love for winning three straight against the Marlins and nearing .500.
25 Houston Astros

(previously: 19)

9-19 It is officially time to panic for the Astros. They are 3-7 in their last 10, and two came against the Rockies. They face the Guardians, Mariners, and Yankees coming up, which is not good news for Houston.
26 Oakland Athletics

(previously: 27)

10-17 The A’s still own the worst team batting average in the league but have managed to scrape some wins together recently. They split a series with the Yankees and won two out of three against the Orioles.
27 Los Angeles Angels

(previously: 26)

10-18 Anthony Rendon is back on the IL with a partial tear of his left hamstring, and they have dropped nine of their last 10.
28 Colorado Rockies

(previously: 29)

7-21 The Rockies are bottom of the barrel this season and always play from behind. They are not going to win many games with that strategy.
29 Chicago White Sox

(previously: 30)

6-22 They just swept the Rays, which vaulted them ahead of the Marlins. Those three wins match their season total entering that series, unfortunately.
30 Miami Marlins

(previously: 28)

6-23 The Marlins have lost six in a row, which is not even the longest losing streak for them this season. Maybe they can snap it against the Rockies or A’s this week.
