Liverpool vs. Fulham Expert Pick – May 3rd, 2023
Matchweek 34
MANCHESTER UNITED VS. FULHAM EXPERT PICK – MAY 3rd, 2023 –Â Another midweek showdown will take place this Wednesday as top 4 outsiders Liverpool welcome middle of the pack Fulham to Anfield. Fulham seem to be kind of stuck in the middle of the table for the season, but this is an important game for Liverpool as they are in desperate need of winning their remaining games if they want a shot at European qualification.Â
LIVERPOOL
Liverpool are currently sitting 5th place in the Premier League table and have drastically improved after a slow start to the season. Liverpool have had a good historical record against Fulham and have a 41W-18D-13L record in the 72 fixtures between these two clubs. Liverpool have also had excellent success in midweek games this season, winning 14 of 16 total and all 7 at Anfield.
In their previous match, Liverpool came out as 4-3 winners in a thriller of a match against Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool jumped out to a 3-0 early lead but Tottenham were able to bounce back and tie the game 3-3 before a Dioga Jota winner deep into stoppage time. In that game, Liverpool had 68% possession and 12 attempts on goal. Will they be able to have a repeat result against Fulham?
FULHAM
Fulham are currently in 10th place in the Premier League table and have been rather inconsistent all season. History has not been on their side against Liverpool, having only won 2 of their last 29 away games against Liverpool in the Premier League, but these 2 victories have been in their last 5 visits to Anfield.
In their previous match, Fulham lost 1-2 to Premier League leaders Manchester City. Not only did they lose the match, they also lost 2 key players in Tim Ream and do-it-all playmaker Andreas Pereira. With these two players out and leading goalscorer Aleksandar Mitrovic to also miss the match against Liverpool, it will be a tall task for Fulham to take down an in-form Liverpool.

PROP BETS
| Liverpool to Win & Yes Over 2.5 Goals (-170) |
With 4 wins in a row and a 6 game unbeaten streak, Liverpool is currently having one of their best runs of form this entire season and while it’s probably a little too late, they still have a fighting chance to earn a 4th place spot in the table. Fulham on the other hand are pretty much stuck in the middle of the table and have not been in good form recently, losing 6 of their last 8 Premier League matches.
As for goals, Liverpool have not had any issues scoring them as of late. They have a total of 17 goals in their previous 5 Premier League games, scoring at least 3 goals in 3 of those 5 games.Â
| Both Teams to Score Yes (-130) |Â
Yes Liverpool have been scoring and yes they have been winning matches, but they have also been conceding. With their new formation of 3 in the back and Alexander Arnold being a hybrid midfield/defender, they have opened up gaps in their back line and opposing teams have exposed them.
They have allowed a goal in 5 straight Premier League matches, conceding an average of 1.8 goals per game. I think it’s safe to say Liverpool will get their goals, but recent form shows that they’ll also allow some.Â
| Mo Salah to Score Anytime (-140) |Â
Mohamed Salah is the leading goalscorer for Liverpool and pretty much has been since he joined the club.
He became the first player to score in eight consecutive home games for Liverpool since Luis Suarez in 2014 with his 15th minute penalty against Tottenham on Sunday. The Egyptian has been in excellent form in recent weeks, having been involved in 11 goals in his last 10 Premier League appearances (9 goals, 2 assists), which is more than any other Premier League player since the start of March.Â
FULHAM INJURIES
Fulham’s injury/suspension list is not necessarily long, but it is HUGE and not good news for Fulham fans. In their previous game against Manchester City, Fulham lost defender Tim Ream and midfielder Andreas Pereira. Tim Ream suffered a broken arm from a hard fall and will miss the remainder of the season. Andreas Pereira had to be stretchered off the field and will also miss the remainder of the season.
Andreas Pereira was a key midfielder for Fulham and without him they have lost their leading assister and their second leading goalscorer. Their leading goalscorer Aleksandar Mitrovic is also out on suspension due to receiving a red card.

THE WORD
Goals seem a pretty safe bet when it comes to Liverpool recently, with their forward line firing on all cylinders and their defensive vulnerability. Despite the absence of Andreas Pereira and Aleksandar Mitrovic, Fulham will still get their chances to trouble a leaky Liverpool backline but I highly doubt they will be able to keep Liverpool quiet on the other end.Â
I’m expecting goals from both sides but I don’t think Fulham have enough in them to get a result from an in-form Liverpool. I’m predicting a 5th consecutive win for the Reds. Hopefully it won’t be as nerve wracking as their previous 3 wins.
