Liverpool vs. Brentford Expert Pick – May 6th, 2023

LIVERPOOL VS. BRENTFORD EXPERT PICK – MAY 6th, 2023 – Liverpool are back at home for their 3rd straight game at Anfield and this Saturday they will be welcoming Brentford.

The Reds are in 5th place in the Premier League standings and are continuing an excellent run of form despite a disappointing season. Brentford currently sit in 9th in the Premier League standings and have had an excellent campaign, with big wins against Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool.

Earlier this season Brentford embarrassed Liverpool 3-1, but Liverpool look to be a different team at the moment. It was however Brentford’s 3-1 win over Liverpool that ended a 4 game Liverpool win streak and sent them on a 4 game slide. Will history repeat itself once again or will Liverpool continue their 7 game unbeaten streak?

LIVERPOOL

Although slim, Liverpool kept their chances at top 4 alive by beating Fulham 1-0 thanks to a 39th minute penalty by Mohamed Salah. Liverpol had 58% possession and plenty of shots on goal but were unable to really break the game open. Before the 1-0 win against Fulham, Liverpool’s games had been goal-packed.

Over their past six fixtures alone, a total of 27 goals have been scored for both sides combined (that’s an average of 4.5 goals per game) with 18 of those accredited to Liverpool. Liverpool have still only lost once at Anfield this season and if they want to qualify for European football then they’ll have to continue this pattern.

BRENTFORD

The Bees are currently on a 2 game win streak after defeating Nottingham Forest 2-1 in a tightly contested match. They were down 0-1 for the majority of the game but were able to grab all 3 points thanks to goals from Ivan Toney and Josh Dasilva deep into the match.

In that game, Brentford managed 69% possession and 14 shots on goal. Brentford have managed to win back to back Premier League games, but before those 2 wins they were on a poor run of form going winless in 6 straight. Brenford have been leaky defensively and have conceded in 7 of their last 8 games.

Scoring goals at Anfield is tough, but keeping Liverpool from scoring is even tougher.

PROP BETS

| Liverpool to Score First & Both Teams to Score (+165) |

The past 3 meetings between these two sides have produced 13 goals and with these teams current defensive form I can see both teams scoring in this one as well. Liverpool have scored first in 4 of their previous 5 games and have been starting out very quickly.

Holding the lead has been their main issue as of late. Both teams have scored with over 2.5 goals being produced in 5 of Liverpool’s last 6 games, while 3 of Brentford’s last 5 outings have produced goals at both ends of the pitch.

| Mohamed Salah to Score Anytime (+100) |

Mo Salah continues to be the top scorer for Liverpool and is pretty much involved in everything that happens offensively with Liverpool. He currently has 18 Premier League goals and has scored in 9 in his last 10 appearances in all competitions and 8 of his last 11 Premier League outings. He is in the best form of his season right now and betting on him to score is never a bad idea.

TIPS

  • Liverpool will be without Stefan Bajcetic, Naby Keita, Roberto Firmino, and Thiago Alcantare for the match against Brentford.
  • Brentford will be without Keane Lewis-Potter, Pontus Jansson, Christian Norgaard, and Thomas Strakosha for the match against Liverpool.
  • Liverpool have won 5 consecutive Premier League matches and are unbeaten in their last 7.
  • Liverpool have only lost 1 game at Anfield this season.
  • Liverpool have won by a 1 goal margin in their last 4 matches.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals in the last 3 fixtured between these two clubs.

THE WORD

For Liverpool, this will be their 3rd consecutive home game, having won the previous 2 against Tottenham and Fulham. They are currently in an excellent run of form and betting against them at Anfield has been tough all season, even during their bad times, which makes it even harder to bet against them at home now while they’re actually playing well.

Brentford ended a bad run of 6 games without a win with 2 wins in a row against 2 out of form sides in Chelsea and Nottingham Forest. I think a 3rd win in a row looks unlikely, although Brentford will fancy their chances after beating Liverpool earlier this season.

In my opinion, this is a tough game to bet on as a result could honestly go either way. So here’s what I think:

  • Liverpool will have tired legs from playing 3 games in a single week, but Jurgen Klopp has plenty of options to refresh his front line.
  • Liverpool are playing at Anfield where they have only lost 1 game this season.
  • Liverpool are in the best form of their season and have won 5 consecutive Premier League games.
  • Liverpool are pretty much in a MUST-WIN situation if they want to keep top 4 hopes alive.

With all that being said, I think Liverpool will have a tough game against Brentford but I think they will get the job done.

PREDICTION: LIVERPOOL 2 – 1 BRENTFORD
