John Fredericks: MLB Picks for Sunday, April 16

JOHN FREDERICKS: MLB PICKS FOR SUNDAY, APRIL 16 – Yesterday we went 5-1 and plus $380. I never bet the run lines and got nailed yesterday with a 3-2 Mets win, minus 1.5 runs! Nevertheless, a solid day.

Godzilla MLB Record 2023

15-8

+$557 for the Season

*Based on all wagers at $100 per game at money or run line odds as specified in Draft Kings. Note: If money line is -150 we are laying $150 to win $100, etc.  If we take +130 and we win, we win $130 for our $100.

April 16 2023

Twins at Yankees (-170)

Gerrit Cole is hot right now and he seems to have overcome sticky-gate. I like the Yankees evening the series at home with the Twinkies. Cole at -170 at home is a nice value for a favorite. The series split is likely.

Pick: Yankees -170

Birds at Chi-Sox (-140)

This is a pitching mismatch with Dylan Cease on the mound for the White Sox.  He is a strikeout machine so look for another dominating performance from him today.

The O’s Grayson Rodriguez was hit hard last time out against Oakland and should struggle in this game as well.

White Sox are better than their record, and they’re tough at home.

Pick: White Sox (-140)

Mets (-155) at A’s

Get out the brooms. The Mets need to beat up on the cellar-dwellers to keep up with Atlanta. Sure, they were somewhat punch-less yesterday but still won the game. Laying only -155 is a gift.

Pick: Mets (-155)

Giants at Tigers (+145)

All of a sudden, the Tigers have won three straight games!

They are actually putting runs up. This team has a lot of young talent. I’m watching…

Logan Webb takes the bump for the Giants, but their one-time ace has not yet found the groove. In three games over 17 innings, he has given up 11 runs in the first five innings of those outings.

The public is still all over Webb and the Giants so I’m taking the +145 with a red-hot Tigers bunch.

Pick: Tigers (+145)

Tampa Bay (-135) at Blue Jays

You bet against Shane McClanahan this season at your own risk. I like the Rays to avoid the sweep in Canada with their stud on the bump. McClanahan has been solid with an ERA of 1.59 along with 21 K’s over 17 innings. Opponents are hitting a paltry .118 against him.

On the flip side, Manoah has been roughed up. His ERA is 4.91 with 11 BB’s to go with 11 K’s, so control has been elusive for the Jay’s ace.

The Rays relentless offense is battering right-handers this season like a wrecking ball. They are scoring nearly eight runs a game off righties (7.8) and hitting .284 as a team. Yikes.

Pick: Rays (-135)

Texas at Astros (-200)

I bet aces who are hot at home (see the Yankee’s Cole). Valdez is nearly unbeatable in Houston. This season he’s been stellar: 1.89 ERA with 18 K’s.

Both teams are banged up with Seager out for the Rangers and Altuve and Brantley out for the ‘Stros. But Maurice Dubon has come from ouster space to lead the Astros in hitting, as he fills in for Altuve. With Houston’s dominant pen, this is a six-inning game. Lay the wood.

Pick: Astros (-200)
