Indiana Fever vs. Washington MysticsIn-Season Stats & Betting Trends

Can The Fever Push Their Winning Streak To Two Games?

The Indiana Fever had dropped nine of their first 11 games heading into their matchup against the Washington Mystics last Friday night. Not only that, but they also played 11 games in a 20-day span. Not the ideal way to start the season by any means.

In that contest, Caitlin Clark led the team’s scoring attack with 30 points on 8-for-15 shooting overall and an impressive 7-for-13 from beyond the arc, tying the rookie record for most three-point shots in a WNBA game with New York Liberty’s Crystal Robinson, who accomplished the feat back in 1999. Clark also tallied eight rebounds, six assists, and four steals in what was probably the best all-around performance of her young WNBA career.

Kelsey Mitchell added 16 points, four rebounds, and three steals, while Aliyah Boston and NaLyssa Smith scored 10 points each. As fan interest in Clark continues, the Mystics hosted this contest at Capital One Arena instead of the stadium they usually play at home. The sellout crowd of 20,033 was the highest attendance for a game since 2007.

“I think we’re part of history, so I’ll take it,” Indiana’s Kelsey Mitchell said after the game. “We embrace it. I’m pretty sure our organization can feed off of it, the state of Indiana.”

Although the victory over the winless Mystics was sorely needed, the Fever will have a difficult task producing consecutive victories for the first time this season against a Connecticut team looking to bounce back from its previous disappointing outing.

Will The Sun Get Back On Track Against Defenisvely-Challenged Fever?

Meanwhile, the Connecticut Sun had posted wins in each of their first nine games. Unfortunately, that streak ended with an 82-75 loss to the New York Liberty on Saturday night.

Both teams overcame early double-digit deficits and battled to a 39-39 tie at the break. Fast-forwarding to the fourth quarter, Connecticut trailed by four points (76-72) before Tyasha Harris knocked down a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 76-75 with 90 seconds left to play in regulation. New York responded with five consecutive points, courtesy of a three-pointer from Jonquel Jones and a basket by Sabrina Ionescu, pushing the lead back to 81-75.

Connecticut placed six players in double figures in this contest. DeWanna Bonner scored a team-high 16 points to go along with eight rebounds and three assists.

Brionna Jones added 13 points and four rebounds, while Dijonai Carrington contributed 12 points and four rebounds. Despite the Sun’s recent setback against New York, look for the league’s top-ranked defensive team to get back on track against a Fever squad that is ranked last in both scoring defense and defensive efficiency.

Now that we have set the stage for this Eastern Conference showdown, let’s examine the betting trends for both sides.

The Spread

Following their 82-75 loss to Liberty, the Sun come into this match as a 10.5-point favorite (per OddShark.com). Here is a look at how both teams have fared against the spread this season.

  • The UNDER has an 80-percent success rate in the Sun’s last five games (4-1).
  • The UNDER total is 4-2 in New York’s last six contests against Indiana.
  • In Indiana’s last seven road matchups against Connecticut, the UNDER total cashed in five times.
  • Connecticut and Indiana average a combined 157.7 points per contest,  which is 1.8 points less than the over/under for this matchup.

Prediction: UNDER 159.5 points

Player Prop Bet

Caitlin Clark bounced back from a pair of poor performances by equaling her season-high of 30 points against the Mystics, thus making her the key player to watch for the road team. She currently has -115 odds of scoring more than 19.5 points and -115 odds of finishing with less than 19.5 points.

Here is a look at how her numbers stack up against the projected points total for this matchup.

  • On the season, Clark is averaging 16.8 points per contest.
  • The rookie guard has played against Eastern Conference teams seven times this season. In those contests, she has averaged 16.0 points per game.
  • In seven road games this season, she is averaging 16.4 points per contest.
  • Clark has suited up against the Sun twice this season. She has averaged 18.5 points per contest.
  • Over her last five outings, she is averaging 18.8 points, 6.4 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per outing, exceeding the points total for this matchup three times during that stretch.
