Detroit Lions vs. Seattle Seahawks — In-Season Stats & Betting Trends

In 2023, the Lions won their first division crown in three decades. They also won two playoff games in one postseason run for the first time since winning the league title in 1957. Following a 20-16 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2, the Lions bounced back with a 20-13 victory over the Arizona Cardinals last week.

Jared Goff, who completed his first 14 passing attempts, finished 18 of 23 for 199 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. David Montgomery led the rushing attack with 105 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown. Amon-Ra St. Brown caught seven passes for 75 yards and a score.

Defensively, the Lions held the Cardinals to 21 points below their scoring average coming into that contest, including just three points in the second half. One thing to remember is that Detroit has lost to Seattle in each of the last three seasons, something head coach Dan Campbell is very much aware of.

“You get tired of that,” Campbell said via CBS Sports. “You get tired of that after one loss, much less three.”

That said, it will be interesting to see if that trend continues.

Seahawks’ Passing Defense Has Been Solid

Meanwhile, the Seahawks are perfect through their first three games, including a 24-3 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 3. Geno Smith completed 26 of 34 passes for 289 yards and one touchdown but threw two picks. Zach Charbonnet accumulated 91 yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns. DK Metcalf snagged four balls for 104 yards and one touchdown.

The Seahawks jumped out to a 17-3 lead after the first quarter, and the score remained unchanged until the final frame. Miami moved the ball to Seattle’s three-yard line but failed to convert on four straight downs. The Seahawks responded with a scoring drive on the ensuing possession to put the game out of reach.

A noteworthy stat for the road team is Seattle is just the second team in NFL history to start a season 3-0 while holding each of its opponents to under 150 yards passing. The Pittsburgh Steelers accomplished this feat back in 1979. Their defense will be tested as Jared Goff will be the best signal caller the Seahawks have faced thus far.

Now that we have set the stage for this matchup, let’s examine the betting trends for both teams.

Hey, make sure you check out our picks on the GW Daily Picks page.

  • In Detroit’s last five games as the favorite, the UNDER total is 4-1.
  • The total has gone UNDER six times in the Seahawks’ previous nine road contests.

  • These teams’ opponents have averaged just 32 points per game, 14.5 points less than the projected point total for this contest.

Prediction: UNDER 46.5 points

Player Prop Bet

Jared Goff is the key player to watch for the host team in this matchup. He currently has -115 odds of throwing for more than 242.5 yards and -115 odds of finishing with less than 242.5 yards (via DraftKings). Here’s how his numbers stack up against the projected yards total.

  • During the season, Goff is averaging 241 yards per outing.
  • In 11 career matchups against Seattle, he has averaged 282.5 yards per game with a passer rating of 89.3.
  • The Lions have played two of their three games at home. In those contests, he has averaged 262 yards per outing.
