August 9 2023

So we popped a soft +$65 yesterday, winning three of five. You can’t go broke making a profit, regardless of how small it might be. We’ll take it! And hats off to King Tuck and the Champs for coming back in the ninth to take out the birdies.

Lots of action to keep us occupied tonight so let’s get to it: August is crunch time!

We are now 243-201 on the season and minus -$225. I like the plus column better!

So let’s get there!

Houston (+125) at Birds

Why not?

The Astros found a way to win despite being down three runs in the ninth against the best closer in baseball on the road. When this team starts winning games like this, look out. As bad at Christian Javier has been this season, he gets a ton of run support whenever he pitches, so I’m banking on a big MO carryover from last night!

Pick: Astros (+125)

Blue Jays (-178) at Cleveland

Cleveland Gets Three Hits…All In The Same Game!

Will Toronto get shut-out two games in a row? No. Will Cleveland hit Kevin Gausman? No.

Toronto has 48 hits over their last 4 games when facing a lefty starter and they have averaged 4.8 runs per game against lefty starter’s this season hitting .265 as a team.

Cleveland has really struggled offensively–averaging just 2.1 runs per game over their last seven while hitting .178 as a team with an on-base percentage of just .239.

Yesterday Toronto had nine hits and left nine runners on base while Cleveland had just three hits and left three runners on base but still managed to win the game 1-0. Luck has its limits.

Pick: Jays (-175)

Atlanta (-1.5 Runs -150)

Here’s an interesting MLB stat: visiting favorites late in the season with a -1.5 run line priced -150 or higher are cashing in at a 75.8 percent rate for a +22 percent ROI. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Now let’s get to this game: the Braves are the better team, and they have a huge advantage when it comes to Max Fried tonight. Since returning from the I.R. Fried has an ERA of 1.69. Take out the one Baltimore meltdown, and he has allowed only one earned run this season spanning 25.3 innings pitched. Yikes!

Pick: Braves (-1.5 Runs, -150)
