The Flyers’ problem with the Rangers goes back much further than Tortorella’s arrival in Philadelphia. New York has won eight of nine from the Flyers, with more than half of the wins coming by more than one goal. And the Rangers enter this game on fire, having won nine in a row and coming off a 5-1 rout of New Jersey.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are at a crossroads with an aging team that is a long shot to make the playoffs. With the March 8th trade deadline looming and the team being eight points away from a wild card position they could be sellers if things don’t turnaround.
Welcome to my Quick Picks column, where I hand out winners, winners, and more winners every day. I fire off picks on everything from college hoops to the NHL.
I suffered a brutal NFL Divisional round shellacking over the weekend. My picks ATS went 0-3 and the only win I was able to find on the board was the UNDER in the Packers/Niners game. Thank god for the rain. But the NFL Conference Championships are just a week away and I’m coming back to the buffet of losses for another chance at redemption.
Never has a win felt more like a loss. After a largely healthy camp, Baltimore saw four key players go down with injuries in their win over the Texans.Â
Can Vegas finish the job here? The Golden Knights dominated most of Game 4 before having to hold on down the stretch, which says two different things about where this series sits. First, the Panthers haven’t thrown in the towel on their chances, as they managed to fight back from 3-0 down to get back to 3-2 before succumbing.
That’s not sustainable long-term for Florida. The Panthers have to either close down the Vegas man advantage, stop giving up so many power plays or get a few power play goals of their own. If they can’t do any of the three, this series will be in prime position to end on Tuesday in Nevada.
If the Panthers don’t come out with a better effort this time, this series isn’t going to last much longer.
