September is over, and historically, that’s been bad for Syracuse. September Syracuse has been a thorn in its opponents’ sides, which was why the Orange were regularly able to win five to seven games a season.
Have the Braves finally run out of duct tape and chicken wire? Atlanta has been holding it together as best as it can ever since Spencer Strider went down for the season. And while the Braves have held things together well, they’ve always been kind of fragile because of the lack of their top pitcher.
Can you run your way through a postseason series? Milwaukee’s going to try to find out, as the Brewers now face off with the Mets again in a battle of speed vs. power.
When Jonathan Smith took the job at Michigan State, this is probably the last place he thought he’d find himself. Once again, Smith finds himself heading back to Autzen Stadium on the visiting sidelines, this time wearing green instead of orange.
And so we’ve reached the MLB doubleheader, and we’re down to two games to decide the playoffs. Two out of Atlanta, New York and Arizona will go to the playoffs, with Sunday’s results leaving the idle Diamondbacks nervously awaiting their fate.
Can Baltimore make up for what happened last year? The Orioles’ rise was a joyride last season, as the O’s went 101-61 just two years after going 52-110. But reality crashed hard in Baltimore when the Orioles ran into Texas and got wiped out in three games.
Are the Tigers still the team that’s been tearing up the American League since the trade deadline, or are they out of gas? That’s the question that has to be asked after Detroit botched the last two games of the season against the awful White Sox, leaving the Tigers in sixth place behind Kansas City.
The Ravens won in week three to avoid moving to 0-3. They play the Bills, Bengals, Commanders, and Buccaneers over the next four weeks, and it would have been tough starting with three losses. The Bills are the best team in the league and are in my power rankings. It should be a great matchup on Sunday Night Football between a desperate Ravens squad and the undefeated Bills.
Could the much-hyped MLB Monday turn out to be completely irrelevant? If the Diamondbacks don’t win today, it might be much ado about nothing. The Monday doubleheader between Atlanta and New York currently holds plenty of meaning, but a loss by Arizona could mean it’s for nothing but seeding.
