Here we go. The biggest matchup of the season so far is here as #2 UGA faces off against #4 Bama this week. Kirby vs DeBoer. Beck vs. Milroe. Williams vs. Starks. This game is a clash of the titans, the two best programs in college football in the last decade.
Call it the Dan Mullen Bowl, call it the battle of the SEC dumpster fires, call it Billy Napier’s last chance to turn this around. Whatever you want to call it, it’s a mess of an early game between two teams that were just a mess last week and need something to save their seasons.
Well, that was ugly. UGA just barely held off the Kentucky Wildcats in an awfully hard game to watch for Dawg fans. Kentucky jumped out to an early lead and took their lead into the 4th quarter. The Dawgs were able to fight their way back after Trevor Etienne made some big plays and ultimately Branson Robinson punched in their only touchdown on the day.
What do Clemson and N.C. State have in common? Both got absolutely embarrassed by SEC opponents, ruining any chance for the ACC to grab some legitimacy this season.
Can this Illinois squad execute better than it did against Central Michigan? The Fighting Illini were clearly the better team on Saturday, but they made the job much tougher than necessary by committing far too many penalties. Against Nebraska, that isn’t going to work.
Texas showed it was back last season. Now the Longhorns have to prove that they’re here to stay. There aren’t many better ways to do that than beating the defending national champion on its home turf, and Texas has the pieces needed to do exactly that.
The Dawgs take on their first SEC opponent and first true road game of the year this Saturday in Lexington. UGA dismantled Tennessee Tech last week while UK was shockingly outmanned against South Carolina.
A 3-and-out. An explosive punt return. Touchdown pass. The game was over at that point. The Dawgs made quick work of the Golden Eagles on Saturday behind Carson Beck’s 5 touchdown passes and the same stingy defense we’ve seen. Let’s break down the good and the bad from this game.
Losing to Nebraska, on its own, is no shame. But it’s how Colorado lost. The Buffaloes were never in the game. And Deion is now 2-9 in his past 11 games at Colorado after losing to a team the Buffaloes beat by 22 last year.
