2024 CJ Cup Players to Watch

2024 CJ Cup Players to Watch

ST. LOUIS, Mo – This week’s stop on the PGA Tour is the CJ Cup, in Dallas at the TPC Craig Ranch.  I played this golf course about one week after it opened several years ago and it was long and pretty tough.  Read 2024 CJ Cup Players to Watch below.

Then the young studs got there and absolutely shot the pads off the place so…I need to stay in my lane.  Which of course is firmly entrenched on the sidelines talking golf. Ok, so who do we like this week?

The Favorites

Well, it starts with everyone not named Scottie Scheffler because THE most dominant player in the world of golf is still on baby watch as he and Meredith prepare for the new arrival.

Jason Day is a name that leaps off the page, along with Texan Jordan Spieth.

In terms of name recognition and headliners, these two are all you are going to get this week. And they may deliver a W, but with Jordan being +1400 and Jason sitting at +2000, I am going to give you some other players to watch that will also provide a bit more value. So let’s scroll further down the list.

Min Woo Lee

I love this perennial sleeper and I throw a few dollars at him very often, especially in bigger events. This guy has big time talent. He’s off at +3300 and I am looking for him to pop up that leaderboard.

KH Lee

He has won here two of the last three years here and he knows how to fill it up at Craig Ranch. Oh yeah, he’s at +4500.

Mark Hubbard

Who?? That’s right Mark Hubbard at 70-1. He is fresh off a third place finish at the Zurich last week and he knows how to go low.

Vanilla Ice Cream

This week on the Tour is perhaps the most vanilla week of the year. I mean absolutely no disrespect to Lord Byron or any of the organizers there in Dallas. I had the honor and sincere pleasure of shaking greatness’ hand over a dozen times as he sat in his rocker near the eighteenth green and actually thanked us for playing.

The fact is, we have three of the world’s top 40 players in the field. TPC Craig Ranch is an absolute birdie fest with everyone racing to 25 under or lower!! The clear favorite this week is Spieth. Spieth has been trending in the wrong direction here lately, missing three of his last five cuts with the most glaring being his absence on the weekend at the Masters.

I love Jason Day as a human. I have played with him, and he still has a ton of game left in the tank. Unfortunately, his new clothing contract with Malbon has garnered more attention than what he has done with his clubs.

To this point, the starchy green jackets at Augusta kindly asked him to remove his busy sweater vest. Hmmmm. Anyway, I want to see Jason and his sticks do more of the talking. BTW, check out this Malbon stuff…definitely different.

Dough Ghim

As we wrap up this week’s player to watch segment, one other player that comes to mind when looking for value is Doug Ghim. Most likely you see Doug in the 30-35 to 1 range in events where the top players are not there. This week his has slid down to 70-1 or +7000. He’s a good young player, went to the University of Texas, and is currently sitting in the 65th spot in FedEx points.
