2022 Lending Tree Bowl Odds and Best Bets

Rice (5-7) vs. Southern Miss (6-6)

2022 LENDING TREE BOWL ODDS AND BEST BETS - When people complain about how there are too many bowl games on the schedule which create a sort of diluted product, this is probably the type of game they are talking about.

There are many things that would probably be more fun than watching a profoundly mediocre Rice squad which is limping into this game with a 5-7 record squaring off against a 6-6 Southern Miss team.

Nate's Pick

The line movement hasn’t been as dramatic as some of the other games and has moved from -4.5 to -6.5 which is just normal market movement because Rice stinks.

Bluntly, Rice is not good and really doesn’t have any business playing in the postseason. They come in on a three-game losing streak that has seen them lose by a combined 73 points during that stretch. Not awesome.

The Owls put a defense on the field that ranks outside the top-100 in basically every meaningful metric, so there’s not a way to spin things generously for that unit. They are a complete liability.

Offensively, they’ve been erratic and have struggled to find a quarterback who looks to be a regular starter.

This is going to be a problem against a USM defense that rates out pretty well. Defense is the strength of Southern Miss and they should be well-equipped to slow down the Owls.

Factoring in how bad Rice is on defense and this looks like a pretty clear play to me.

Nate’s Pick

Southern Miss -6.5
